Many Johnny Depp fans still want Amber Heard removed from Aquaman 2 and a new petition has been launched for Blake Lively to take over her role.
There hasn't been any indication of Amber Heard completely losing her role as Mera in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, but that hasn't stopped people from trying to make the removal happen. More than four million people have signed a petition for Heard to be cut from the film due to allegations made by Johnny Depp that she has been abusive to him before fabricating domestic violence allegations against him when their marriage was over. The former couple is now suing each other in court.
Most of the public opinion related to the case seems to be on Depp's side. The petition for her removal from Aquaman 2 had more than doubled in size since the start of the trial, resulting in rumors that she had her scenes removed to less than ten minutes of overall screen time. Heard also testified that she "fought hard" to stay in the film, alleging that Warner Bros. had wanted to have her removed. The studio has not confirmed nor denied the rumors as of this time.
It doesn't seem likely that the role of Mera will be recast for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Though the film was pushed back to 2023, it has already completed filming, and carrying out reshoots to put in a new actress would be very costly for the studio. It would have been much easier to have Heard's role as Mera reduced if not completely removed, which appears to be what happened, according to recent court testimony from Heard.
"I fought really hard to stay in the movie. They didn’t want to include me in the film," Heard said, noting her role had been "very pared down" from what it was originally. "I was given a script. Then given new versions of the script that had taken away scenes that had action in it, that depicted my character and another character, without giving spoilers away, two characters fighting with one another. They basically took a bunch out of my role. They just removed a bunch.”
