One of the most frustrating television and movie stereotypes is represented by the dumbest characters. Horror movies have notoriously played a negative role in this genre over the years, leading to incredibly popular parodies like the one of Scary Movie. Similarly, comedies use this element as a parody tool by creating classics like Dumb and Dumber. The key that unites them is the awareness of wanting to give a really idiotic product and in fact it makes you laugh (not always).
However, unfortunately then it comes to situations like the third season of Locke and Key , where you take back the characters of Dumber and Dumber, but put them in a serious fantasy drama . This lack of logic and reasoning ultimately underlies every question and problem our insufferable characters face.
The ensuing result sometimes makes it difficult to see, because you find yourself rolling your eyes and yelling at the television repeatedly , wondering why they are doing all this so badly. It soon becomes clear that the magic of the series has worn off with this third season, if not already with the second.
While stupid characters who act bizarre can be fun to watch in the sense that they are “so bad they are perfect ,” Locke and Key is the exception, it just doesn't manage to have that advantage either.
Conversely, most of the season is filled with contradictions, huge plot holes, gimmicks, and characters who either learn nothing from their mistakes or never grow up over time. Taking care not to spoil anything, if I were to point out one of the worst perpetrators of this situation, I would absolutely point the finger at Bode. What growth path did this boy take?
From the cute, intelligent and curious child of the first season to one of the most annoying and irritating protagonists of the entire series ; expect a lot of bragging rights, arrogance, pouting attitudes and gossip.
So what's the point of this story? Well, after Netflix's practical recap on the events of the second season, the new chapter of Locke and Key resumes with the Locke family ready to put their lives back on their feet. Tyler is out of town and has no idea about the keys, he forgot them as his will, Nina is still in a "want / don't want" relationship with Josh , while Kinsey and Bode are always mulling over the Locke house, in waiting for the main plot to resume its course. And here is the first episode one comes alive.
