Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly rejected the chance to become the highest paid footballer in the world during the summer. Spanish outlet Marca claim to have verified news in Portugal that Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal offered the Manchester United superstar a contract worth £210m for two seasons.
The offer from the Riyadh based side would have seen Ronaldo make £1.7m a week .Despite links to the likes of Atletico Madrid Sporting Lisbon and Napoli, he was unable to secure a move to a club in Europes premier competition.Ronaldo has since been used primarily from the bench under new manager Erik ten Hag.The World Cup now looks to be Ronaldos main focus with a transfer in the January window remaining a possibility. Ronaldos future was a major talking point in the summer.
Ronaldo scored 24 times for United in the 2021/22 season but despite his decent season United could did not manage to qualify for the Champions League .It was believed he wanted to leave the Red Devils to join a club in Europes premier cup competition. However he did not end up making a move and was still a United player when the summer transfer window shut. The 37 year old is still playing at a very high level and had multiple offers on the table but none took his fancy.
They report that Ronaldo was offered a two-year deal worth €242 million £210 million to join Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal . That works out to €2.3m per week £2m per week.Ronaldo currently earns £515,385 a week at United meaning he would have quadrupled his wages if he made the move. However Ronaldo was not done with European football and rejected the offer.
