NCIS Season 20 Finale Image: Torres Goes To Prison (But Why Is He There?)

Special Agent Nick Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) is behind bars in new images from the upcoming NCIS season 20 finale, teasing a shocking cliffhanger.

New images from the NCIS season 20 reveal that Nick Torres is in prison, but why is he there? Portrayed by That '70s Show alum Wilmer Valderrama, Torres made his first NCIS appearance in the season 14 premiere. He's since been a regular presence on the long-running police procedural, helping to carry it through the significant departures of other main characters like Gibbs (Mark Harmon).

New images (via TV Insider) from the upcoming NCIS season 20 finale, which premieres May 22 on CBS, calls Torres' future into question.

The finale, which is titled "Black Sky", promises to be a Torres-centric episode. From the photos, Valderrama has a shaved head to reflect his character's new circumstances, and he's wearing an orange jumpsuit, but it's unclear what exactly has changed for Torres.

There is no summary or logline of what to expect from the NCIS season 20 finale. But going by its history, the CBS show regularly uses shocking cliffhangers. This trend goes as far back as the drama's season 2 finale, where the conclusion was punctuated by the death of Kate (Sasha Alexander), a decision that still proves controversial today. Other cliffhangers include the return of Ziva (Cote de Pablo) to NCIS at the end of season 16 after she was believed to have died. And more recently, Gibbs's boat explosion ended NCIS season 18.

Regardless of what happens with Torres, the future of NCIS has been confirmed. The show will return for season 21, but that also means the writers can afford to leave the fate of Torres up in the air in the interim. Although it can be assumed that the NCIS agent is undercover, it could be the case that something happens to him during that time that makes his undercover mission much more serious.

More will likely be revealed about the finale as it approaches. But it seems like after NCIS had fun with Torres, including sneaky That 70s Show references and nods to Valderrama's portrayal as Fez. His story could become far more troubling as the CBS franchise seems to be setting up another potentially game-changing send-off.
