William is caught in an embarrassing situation in Outlander Book 8, Chapter 53.William decides to cool off in a stream in Outlander Book 8, Chapter 53. There he comes across two women who have been looking for him.
This is an embarrassing situation for William. He knows that wading in a stream is unbecoming of an officer, but he decides to take the risk. The risk doesn’t quite pay off, but the women who find him are kind ones. They’re actually looking for him.
We get to meet Arabella-Jane again. This time, she introduces us to her sister, and I feel it’s pretty clear these two characters will play a much bigger role in William’s life than he anticipates. I just love the way they’re introduced, too.
There’s also some foreshadowing about Captain Harkness. I’ll get to my thoughts on that matter in the foreshadowing section.
What about using this in the adaptation? I hope it is because I want to see Frances. I’ll get to my thoughts on that in the adaptation section.
Let’s dive into Written in My Own Heart’s Blood Chapter 53.While he is in the stream, the voice of a woman calling his name catches his attention. He sees Arabella-Jane, the prostitute he was with a few chapters ago. She is with her sister, Frances, and she tells Frances to curtsy to William.
Of course, William is embarrassed at the state the women have found him in, and he even ends up thinking of the time Lord John Grey teased him for falling into the privy. It turns out that they were looking for him. Jane shares that she’s been trying to avoid Captain Harkness, who returned to the brothel. She would like William to keep them safe so that they can get to New York and relocate.
William agrees to meet them at the surgeon’s tent the next evening. He needs time to think of a way to save them.
