Law & Order: SVU leads the squad to Muncy's brother while Churlish works to fit in with Benson and her team. Here's a spoiler-filled recap.
Will Detective Joe Velasco make things right with Captain Olivia Benson or go through Law & Order: SVU's revolving door? That's the big question while his replacement, Detective Toni Churlish, meets up with Velasco and Detective Grace Muncy, the latter of whom have a little flirtatious banter going. SVU is trying to make up for Bensler somehow. But enter a new key character: Muncy's brother Teddy.
Elsewhere, two Canadian men bond at a hotel bar by being misogynistic and asking for recommendations on "friendlier" women, specifically redheads. The bartender creepily agrees to help them out. In another bar, Abby Clark hangs with friends and her ex-husband. The bartender on duty gets a text to secure a redhead and sets his sights on Abby. The next morning, she wakes up on the side of the street, disoriented and worse for wear. Abby makes it into a bodega and tells the people there she was raped before passing out.
Things are frosty between Muncy and Churlish in the squad room when Benson walks in and assigns them to be deskmates, forcing them to get along. Privately, Velasco lets Benson know that he's been making headway on tracking down his old gang friend. Benson wants to make sure he learns to deal with his messes on his own, but she's still proud of him. Just then, Bruno bursts in with the report of Abby's rape. Churlish and Bruno go to the hospital and Abby's ex-husband tearfully recounts how he found Abby. He laments that they were a COVID romance that ended despite him still caring for her.
Bruno and Velasco interview Terry. He's heard enough rumblings of sketchy hookups by his bartender associates. He says he doesn't know what happened though -- or if Arlo was involved. While Muncy argues that Teddy's been cooperative, Churlish suggests they do more: test the supply chain by using Teddy as an informant, especially because Teddy has known about previous sketchy situations and just chalked them up to Friday fun. Abby recounts her night again to Churlish and Muncy and reiterates that she took a shot that she watched being poured out of the bottle, so she's not sure how she could've been drugged. She's also disappointed to learn that zero upscale hotels in the city seem to have recognized the photo the cops showed them.
