Jeffrey Dahmer and Harold Shipman in Courtyard drinks promo

NOTORIOUS serial killers Harold Shipman and Jeffrey Dahmer were featured on a city 'comedy' cocktail bar promotion, sparking anger from some critics.

The controversial posts featured on The Courtyard's Facebook page although they were removed today (Tuesday) - and no official complaints have been lodged.

Cllr Lynn Denham, who represents Cathedral ward, said: "I don’t think criminals should be treated as celebrities.  It is in very poor taste to use them to promote sales of alcohol. "As the health & wellbeing lead for Worcester City Council, I am aware of the impact that excessive alcohol consumption can cause to people’s health, their loved ones and our NHS services.  We need to challenge the culture where ‘getting wasted’ is fun and murder and rape are regarded as a joking matter."

We reported in January on 'Mugged Off', a new cocktail bar which opened in February at The Courtyard in St Nicholas Street in Worcester city centre.

The idea is customers get "bantered and abused" by staff as part of the experience and the promotions were designed to "push comedy boundaries" said the owner.

One post, featuring a photo of mass murderer Doctor Harold Shipman, read: "At our Mugged Off cocktail bar we do not 'tuck you up in bed' at the end of the night, in the same way as Harold would!!!

"Unlike him, even though we will rinse you, we want you to wake up in the morning."
