"That's what's so amazing. It's still living. The Vampire Diaries fans remain loyal to this day and while they might be hoping for a revival of the series, Ian Somerhalder is speaking out on the rumors that there's one in the works.
While talking on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live, Andy asked him if he had heard anything about the recent rumors that a ninth season is happening in the near future.
"I have not heard anything about a season nine. I mean, what would, you know, like what would happen Stefan and Damon are, you know, Damon has like gray hair and they're, they have canes like, 'Oh, I got, gotta feed the baby.' You know what I mean? No, listen, it ran it, it ran a great course. And now it's still living. That's what's so amazing. It's still living," Ian said.Andy noted that the show will basically last forever thanks the power of Netflix.
"It's beyond living. I mean, you never could have imagined that there would be a global platform. None of us could have imagined like Netflix where, I mean, you hear of your show airing around the world. Now you can measure how many streams it's getting it's on. I mean, it really is incredible. No one could have imagined that," he said.
Of course, the show is also continuing to live on thanks to its other spin-offs, The Originals and Legacies, which is currently on its third season. Legacies is also putting on a musical episode based off the original series, so there's always more to The Vampire Diaries that we'll get to see even if it's not with our favorite characters.
