By far not every series manages to have a really good sequel . The expectations of fans are often not sufficiently met, or the ideas of series creators and viewers differ too much. The second season of the Swedish Netflix series Young Royals is not one of them. On the contrary: The sequel is even better than the first season. However, this season also has a catch. We binged through season two and were both over the moon and disappointed . We also have an outlook for the third season.
The action of the second season picks up some time later, after the Christmas holidays. At the private elite school in Hillerska, the video of Wilhelm (Edvin Ryding) and Simon (Omar Rudberg) is far from forgotten, but has been pushed into the background. Only one thing counts for Wilhelm: revenge. The relationship between Wilhelm and Simon has broken down and Simon has a new boyfriend in sight. When the Swedish royal family announced that they were going to visit the school, the relationship between Wilhelm and his mother, the Queen of Sweden, began to falter again and a crown prince back-up was chosen for Wilhelm to be on the safe side – who was also being taught in Hillerska . Between all the events, friendships are also put to the test and old loves are given new chances.
Series, films and stories about royals have become very popular, especially in the last two years. Common shortcoming: The cast is not necessarily optimally chosen. Actors in their mid-30s play teenagers, and everyone looks like they've been cast off the runway. At Young Royals it's different in the best sense. Edvin Ryding, who plays the lead, is just 19 himself. Visually, the cast is wonderfully normal and not overly perfected. The story about Wilhelm and Simon gets a few new obstacles in the second season. The season's only problem: it's too short. After just six entertaining episodes, the fun is already over. Two more episodes would have been very good here. But at the same time we are glad that nothing is unnecessarily drawn out. Netflix is always too happy to do that.
Is Young Royals season 2 worth it on Netflix?
For everyone who is already eagerly awaiting the sequel, the second season of Young Royals will be an absolute highlight. If you're only now interested in the series and haven't even seen the first season, you should start as soon as possible. With Young Royals , it feels a bit like the mighty streaming contraption Netflix didn't have quite as much say. And that's what makes Young Royals one of the best coming-of-age series out there. Netflix hasn't officially announced a third season yet. However, if you assume the end of the second season, it should actually go on. We are very sure that in a year we can expect stories from Hillerska again.
