Other monstrous figures will be explored. Ryan Murphys Monster series which kicked off with a season about serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer has been renewed at Netflix for a further two seasons. The show will take on an anthology format with each new season focusing on a new subject similar to Murphys existing anthology shows American Horror Story and American Crime Story.
Via Entertainment Weekly future seasons will tell stories of other monstrous figures who have impacted society .The first season featured a controversial portrayal of notorious serial killer Dahmer who was played by Evan Peters. The show has been littered with controversies and debates since it dropped on Netflix earlier this year. Netflix was criticised for adding the LGBTQ+ tag to the show while the series itself was accused of being disrespectful to the families of Dahmers victims. A crew member who worked on the show also alleged she was treated horribly on set.
Nonetheless the series has been incredibly popular with viewers. It drew huge audiences in its first week of streaming, amassing a total of 196.2 million subscribers over seven days. That puts it right up there with the likes of Squid Game and Stranger Things .Overall, Dahmer is the fifth most viewed Netflix release over a seven day period. The news comes paired with an update on another Ryan Murphy show. Netflix The Watcher which stars Naomi Watts and Bobby Canna vale as a married couple who find themselves being harassed by a stalker, will continue the story in a second season. Good news for Murphy fans.
