Gerard Butler's new thriller Plane trails in wake of Con Air and Die Hard

The frenzied action movie leans heavily on classics from the past and just about gets by thanks to the banter between Butlers pilot Brodie Torrance and jailbird Louis Gaspare played by Mike Colter

Fly the dangerous skies of Plane, with Gerard Butler the heroic pilot in a flight from reality kept aloft by its own cliches. Preposterous predictable but hugely entertaining this frenzied action thriller draws both story and characters from such classics as Lost Con Air and Die Hard.

French director Jean-Francois Richet’s pulse-quickening film focuses on Captain Brodie Torrance Butler pilot of a civilian aircraft with shackled jailbird Louis Gaspare Mike Colter an alleged killer being transported by the FBI on board .It all goes puffin-shaped when Brodie is forced to make an emergency landing in a fierce storm, saving everyone, only to discover they have landed on a war-torn island off the Philippines.

When most of the passengers are taken hostage by dangerous rebels, the only person Torrance can count on for help is Gaspare who it turns out, is a hardened army veteran with a strict code of honour. My passengers my responsibility Paisley born Butler spouts as the action commences.
