Finally, The Peripheral Delivers On Chloe Grace Moretz's Action Promise

The Peripheral took its time, but finally lives up to Chloë Grace Moretz s action promise in episode 5. Making her name as the appropriately violent Hit Girl in the Kick Ass movies there is little doubt that Chloë Grace Moretz knows her way around a fight sequence. As revealed in a behind the scenes documentary for the Kick Ass special edition release  the young actress performed many of her own stunts  training intensively to morph into her foul mouthed superhero persona. With The Peripheral  Moretz stars as Flynne Fisher in a sci fi thriller  and her character pilots a lethal robotic body every time she visits the future. High octane combat is surely to be expected.

In episode 5 The Peripheral finally delivers on that promise. Tired of waiting for Lev and Wilf to resolve her dispute with the villainous Research Institute  Flynne walks her robotic body over to the R.I.'s headquarters and demands a meeting with Cherise played by T Nia Miller. With both characters using synthetic bodies and no love lost between them a fist fight inevitably erupts. The battle is a deeply impressive and dizzyingly immersive display of flying fists and martial arts. Flynne and Cherise Is fight feels visceral and meaty  but Amazon Prime Video Is The Peripheral still takes full advantage of its two combatant   mechanical bodies to weave dance like choreography into the scene.

Shortly before The Peripheral premiered  Chloë Grace Moretz spoke at NYCC about the hand to hand action in her upcoming series, and even compared Flynne to Hit-Girl, admittin There was a little bit of Hit Girl in there, for sure.  The Peripheral neglected to properly showcase that aspect of Moretz Is character prior to episode 5. In The Peripheral Is premiere  Flynne was piloting a robot body that looked like her brother, Burton. In The Peripheral episodes 2 & 4  Flynne Is trips to the future involved exposition more than exertion.

The Peripheral episode 3 did end with Flynne and Wilf taking on the Research Institute's resident thug, Daniel but this sequence mostly involved Moretz Is character taking a very one-sided beating. The lively disagreement between Flynne and Cherise in The Peripheral episode 5 finally fulfills the promise of putting a talented action actress in a role where acrobatic combat is almost a guarantee. As the feud between past and future escalates in The Peripheral  and as Flynne becomes increasingly accustomed to her artificial body  more instances of wanton violence are likely to arise.
