Call the Midwife star Jessica Raine has revealed if she would return to the show after leaving in 2014. The 40 year old actress played Nurse Jenny Lee in the BBC period drama as the first episode which aired in 2012 centered around her arrival at Nonnatus House.
Her character was based on real-life nurse Jennifer Worth, whose memoirs inspired the hit show which is set in the 50s and swinging 60s. However after three years Jenny Lee left Poplar to work at the Maria Curie Hampstead Hospital as Jessica Raine departed the show.
Now, eight years after her departure Jessica spoke to Digital Spy and confirmed a possible return to Call the Midwife is not completely off the table. Explaining if she would return as Nurse Jenny Lee, she said: Yeah. I mean never say never. It would have to be pretty cool. She'd have to be in the BBC period drama as Jenny Lee doing something pretty amazing. Maybe Jenny is in the 60s, having a great time
With that you are very limited with Jenny Lee because it is Jennifer Worth is story. So you kind of have to be very respectful of that. I do not see it happening but you never know. Jessica was believed to have left the series so she could pursue a career in film in the US reports The Express. In 2017 the actress appeared on The One Show and revealed she no longer watched Call the Midwife.
