Although fans and critics agree that Nightmare On Elm Street 3 Dream Warriors is a slasher classic the sequel set up some major franchise flaws.
Although Nightmare On Elm Street 3 Dream Warriors is arguably one of the strongest movies in the iconic slasher franchise the acclaimed sequel also set up most of the flaws that eventually ruined Freddy Kruegers reputation as a killer villain. Even classic genre outings like John Carpenters Halloween are often followed by critical flops like Halloween 2 whose misjudged Laurie centric twist derailed the entire franchise in the movies attempts to outdo the original sleeper hit.
However every once in a while a horror sequel can effectively build on the appeal of the original movie, improve its scares and surprises and still stay true to the tone of the earlier story. 1986s Nightmare On Elm Street 3 Dream Warriors for example was a rare slasher sequel that garnered almost as much critical acclaim as the first movie in the series. Although original director Wes Craven was not happy with the studios decision to replace his proposed plot for the movie fans of the series still cite Nightmare On Elm Street Dream Warriors as one of the best installments in the series decades later.
