Why The Last Airbender 2 Never Happened

The animated show was immensely popular so what happened to the live-action sequel? Heres everything that could have been.

Since the original animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender proved so persistently popular with viewers it is not unreasonable for fans of the franchise to wonder why the shows 2009 live action adaptation never got a sequel and whether Avatar The Last Airbender 2 will ever happen. Among both viewers and critics alike the animated series Avatar The Last Airbender was an unexpectedly big hit upon the shows 2005 release. Deftly weaving mature themes of war and social upheaval into its dramatic fast paced plot Avatar: The Last Airbender had all the hallmarks of a successful fantasy franchise.

The animated show was a huge hit with viewers, making the divisive director M Night Shyamalans live-action Avatar The Last Airbender movie adaptation a hotly anticipated release in the summer of 2010. While the tale of Aang a supernatural hero who could control the elements was beautifully realized in two dimensional animations  viewers were understandably excited to see the story brought to life again on the big screen. However over a decade after Avatar The Last Airbenders release there is no sign of a sequel to the fantasy adventure.

As unfortunate as it was it is not hard to see why Avatar The Last Airbender 2 never happened. Even though was released at the height of the summer blockbuster season on July 4 Avatar The Last Airbender flopped  hard. The movie barely recouped its budget and was trashed by critics and fans alike with almost no one defending Shyamalans version of the series. Avatar The Last Airbenders future movie ambitions were quashed by the failure of this live action adaptation with the enthusiasm surrounding the movies potential failures flatlining after its arrival.
