How long can the legacy last?Cobra Kai remains one of the biggest jewels in Netflixs crown which is pretty impressive considering it started life as a YouTube series.
Since dropping in 2018 the continuation of The Karate Kid has proven to be one of the most faithful and successful reboots of a popular retro franchise ever. Thankfully its maintained its steady hold on the ethos of the show too with season fives drop on September 9.
However with the development of the series so too has the running theme of the show itself. In season one and two the focus shifted from original hero Daniel LaRusso Ralph Macchio to original villain Johnny Lawrence William Zabka who has desperate to get back his heyday after a downward spiral.
In doing this it gave a two sides to every story trend a new perspective from Johnnys point of view that changed the entire way we looked at the original Karate Kid. Johnny was not the bad guy we thought he was and LaRusso was not quite the hero we would held him up to be. Theres yin yang in everyone its just a matter of how you look at it. But over the course of the show as more of the OG Karate Kid generation started being brought into the fold the original good vs evil started getting more prominent once again. This was never more evident than in the latest big bad Terry Silver.
The Karate Kid III baddie started off a good guy in his reintroduction, but was soon tempted back by John Kreese into the world of evil, ultimately surpassing him in a double cross, setting him up for literal attempted murder and taking over the Cobra Kai dojo himself.
