GERARD BUTLER IS LOOKING FOR A WIFE AND HIS OLD SUCCESSES

As the Spartan king in Zack Snyder's 300 , Gerard Butler embodied one of the most iconic film heroes of the 2000s. After that, however, things went quiet about the then action newcomer, apart from a few smaller riot films and romcoms. For several years he has been producing action thrillers, starring himself. The latest release from Chase aims to be in the same vein as 96 Hours - the action thriller that catapulted Liam Neeson back into the mainstream. You can find out from our review whether Chase can make a similarly strong comeback.

There are many old stars in the action genre. Sometimes comebacks succeed with action thrillers, Liam Neeson says hello. But many others, from Steven Seagal and Jean Claude Van Damme to Bruce Willis, ended up with just a lot of trash. At first glance, Chase seems to be heading in a similar direction with Gerard Butler. But the new kidnapping thriller isn't that bad.

A man is looking for a kidnapped woman – the plot could hardly be simpler . At a gas station, Will Spann's (Gerard Butler) wife is kidnapped, and his waves go hoc. However, the luxury couple had previously struggled with marital problems, which is why Spann himself is suspected of having done something to his wife. So he not only becomes a beefy avenger , but also the hunted. Butler's character quickly becomes violent and an action-packed hunt begins with beating, shooting and some sneaking.

A lot of time is already wasted at the gas station where the kidnapping takes place. Then there are a few detours to an apartment building and police station before the showdown at a more leisurely trailer park. The pompous soundtrack wants to hide the limitations of the sets , but unfortunately cannot. For the ending, you afforded yourself a single mediocre CGI explosion. Butler is no longer convincing as an action hero. He looks old, despite his casual shirt unbuttoned, and his constantly restless manner is a little stressful.
