Five Thoughts On Locke and Key‘s “Freebird”

Hello Multiversity readers and welcome back for another episode recap of Locke and Key. Last episode was a lot grimmer than most episodes and seemed like hope was slowly dwindling for The Lockes. This episode was a great change of pace with some proper planning and execution so let’=s jump right into it with the episode  Freebird.

With all hope looking lost as The Lockes run away from their home, Gideon is trying to open the portal to his world when he notices something is keeping the portal from remaining open. He has the chest filled with all the keys The Lockes have collected, only to realize that one is missing. Without that last key, it seems that his goal won’t be happening. Gideon sends his last lackey, James Bolton to look for the family to get the last key. The only thing that didn’t make sense was that he only sent him the old school gun they stole from the library.

Maybe Gideon was going to try and open the portal without the last key, but it might have been wise to try and arm your guy with at least one key in this strange new world.Despite not giving Bolton a proper weapon, Gideon did give him the right idea on how to find The Lockes, Josh Bennett, AKA Nina Locke’s boyfriend. If there’s one thing that every villain knows is that if you want information, always go for the loved one of whoever you’re after. Bolton shows up at the library, where Josh puts up a fight, even getting the gun away at one point, but because Bolton’s an echo, he cannot be harmed by mortal weapons. Josh gets shot and still doesn’t rat out where Nina is, but Jamie gets caught in the crossfire and ends up being held hostage to find The Lockes. As an audience member, you figured they would be caught, but there are major props for Josh still not mentioning where they are. After he gets taken to the hospital and treated for the gunshot wound, Nina tells him the truth about magic and everything. Although his memory will erase it, she might use the Head Key on him if things return to semi-normal.
