Alan Rickman's Diaries: Why He Wanted to Stay "Snape" to the End

 Private Insights: Actor Alan Rickman s diaries will be published as a book in October. Rickman died of pancreatic cancer in early 2016 at the age of 69. Excerpts from Rickmans journal which the newspaper has now published, offer a glimpse into his years of involvement in the Potter universe. Prior to beginning production of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Rickman was forced to deal with health issues. In 2005 he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer.

Shortly after the major surgery Rickman made an entry in his journal marking his decision to remain  Snape.  Finally I can say  yes to HP 5. The argument that won was this Go through with it.  The diaries reveal not only Alan Rickman  the actor but the real Alan  his sense of humor keen observation craftsmanship and dedication to the arts Rickmans widow Rima Horton  said back in 2020. The actor began accordingly Started writing the diaries by hand in the early 1990s with the intention of publishing them one day. British actor Tom Felton  35  who played Draco Malfoy in the  Harry Potter films said Rickman was intimidated for years. Working with the more than 40 year old colleague was  scary Felton said in a video on Tiktok last year adding He was the only actor I knew and he was terrifying in the most enjoyable way. 

Felton said he first met Rickman when he was 12 and it took him a few years to find the courage to say more than  Hi. However Rickman was also  very very nice and had a  impish sense of humor. It was a real privilege to work with him emphasized Felton. Rickman had also acted in films like  Sense and Sensibility or  Robin Hood.
